"Health Coaches" Seek Small But Important Wellness Improvements
Wellness efforts at HISD are getting a boost, thanks to more than 70 HISD educators who are participating in Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools' new "Health Coaches" program. These outstanding wellness champions from across the district have begun implementing a "blueprint" of wellness activities at the building level, including Fuel Up to Play 60. HISD recently expanded its First Class Breakfast Program providing more students with a free breakfast served in the classroom at the beginning of the school day. READ MORE
Students from Chavez High School recently toured HISD's Food Service Support Facility and while there, shared ideas for promoting healthy eating. This visit continues the trend toward engaging students in improving school wellness, an effort initiated at the Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools Summit. READ MORE
Lanier Middle School students and staff have taken several innovative concepts created at the Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools Summit, and turned them into reality. DeMeco Ryans, a linebacker with the Houston Texans, recently visited the school to applaud all the ways the school is promoting health and wellness. READ MORE

Launched last February, the Healthy Kids, Healthy Schools initiative has attracted support from nearly 80 national and local organizations. Special thanks to the YMCA of Greater Houston, Memorial Hermann, Kroger and Dairy MAX for their recent support of the new HKHS Health Coaches initiative, providing exciting rewards and incentives for participants who meet program objectives.
